We live in a world of interactions and interruptions. If you read anything on our current culture you will inevitably come across a report detailing how distracted we are. Most come at it from the perspective of it being a negative but I would challenge that perspective.
In an ideal world you would be able to work on your task with complete focus and uninterrupted, but there a very few jobs or roles that allow that. In my position I both teach and lead. For my teaching I need uninterrupted time of study, but for my leadership I need high interaction. Those two often clash.
I live a life of interruptions and I love it! On a typical day I will have multiple people walk into my office, text or email me, and even dial my number and talk to me on the phone (so archaic). Those interactions and interruptions come with my role as a solo pastor and I have to embrace it. They are an opportunity to engage and develop people.
There are times when you need to get stuff done so you silence everything, but there are other times where I have a long to do list and God shows me early in the day to set it aside and handle what He is bringing my way. If I fight it I only get frustrated. God created us to be international beings and part of that is the interruptions. I also find that He gives me the time to complete what I need to do if I’m open to the divine appointments He brings me.
