Peace is Possible

Josh 11:23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord had spoken to Moses. And Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal allotments. And the land had rest from war.

Many of us are in need of some rest. Maybe a restful vacation, a good nights sleep, or even just a nap. While those are all good and provide a benefit for a brief time we will just slip back into the old routine. I know that is what happens to me.

For many of us to get true rest it means we need to overcome some enemies and win some battles in our life. Many of us are tired just from running from our problems. True rest and peace are going to come when we face our demons and let Jesus bring victory.

Joshua took and WHOLE land and there was rest. This means he conquered the major enemies and was now in control of Canaan. There was still a lot of territory to conquer (Josh 13:1) but God had brought victory over the enemy. For us to have rest doesn’t mean we need to root out every area in our life but we do need to overcome the big areas.

What areas in your life need conquering by Jesus? He is the only one who can bring victory. No one has to show you these, you face them daily. If you truly want rest in your life it is time to take them on.

You can overcome these battles and allow Christ to take control of your life by doing three things:

1. Surrender: many of us are experiencing victory in our life because we haven’t let Jesus be King over our whole life. Usually the areas that we are struggling are the ones we haven’t given over to Christ. We are trying to fight the battle alone and are losing badly. Start by asking Jesus for forgiveness and surrendering that battle to Him. It is amazing what He will do from there.

Thursday I will post the other two steps.
