“I AM”

Josh 5:14 And he said, “No; but I am the commander of the army of the Lord. Now I have come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped and said to him, “What does my lord say to his servant?”

Joshua’s encounter with Christ is different from other Old Testament encounter in that Christ comes in the form of a warrior and the commander of God’s army. This is about the only difference though.

Malcolm Wild of Calvary Chapel Merritt Island, Florida has a great teaching on this. “I AM” translates into Hebrew asYahweh. He speaks of how Jesus can be everything to everyone which is why he is called “I AM.” To Joshua he is a soldier with his sword drawn ready to defeat Jericho. To Shadrach, Mesach, and Abednego he was the companion in the fire, and to Jacob he was the angel that wrestled all night and then blessed him.

Jesus is still Yaweh. He is everything we need at exactly the the right moment. When you need a friend He is there, when you need some correction He will stand in front of you and wrestle through it, when you need someone to fight your battles He will go before you. Best of all when you have blown it big time He will rescue you… because we all need a Savior.

If you doubt how awesome Jesus is read Rev 1:12-15. That is Christ in all of His glory, not someone who you are going to mess with.
