John 4:23-24 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
We wrap up this series on True Worship by looking at how to worship. We have seen what worship is, why we worship, and where it starts now lets look at how to we come before the throne of God. Before we look at what spirit and truth is we must go in with the understanding that God, the Father, is looking for people to worship Him. We worship Him because He is Holy and if He wants us to worship Him we must do so in spirit because He is Spirit form. God is invisible. This means our spirit needs to by synced with His in order to worship.
Worship in spirit. We need to link our spirit with His and this happens by us first getting right. We need to get rid of any sin in our lives that hinders our spirit from God. Once that happens we need to enter in. This means that we seek the Holy Spirit to connect our spirit to God. Many people have translated this vers to mean worship in the Spirit and thus have taken liberties in how they worship. What God is really saying is that He wants our heart and not just our head connected to Him. Sometimes our actions can actually take us away from God because we are focusing on the act. We need to settle our hearts and then cry out to God.
Worship in Truth. We have seen that Worship is to give honor to the one whom it is due. We have also seen that praise is to make a loud noise , thanks is to stretch out our arms in surrender and we are called to praise the Lord in the Congregation (Psalm 111:1). So to worship in truth is to take what the scriptures say and put it into action. Worship is primarily done through song in the Bible. Let us worship in spirit and truth by engagin our hearts and our minds. Lift up your voice, Stretch out your hands, and Praise God in the sanctuary! Once you begin to do this you will start to realize what true worship is
