John 4:16-18 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” 17 The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.”
Part three we are going to focus on where we worship. After telling the woman at the well that He would give her living water she misses the point so He must try another route. He then tells her to bring her husband. Jesus begins to show us where worship is important. The first place it is important is in the home. This woman’s home was a mess. Five husbands down and she is shacking up with a guy who isn’t her husband. If we want to worship God we need to make sure our house is in order. Why do you think Jesus brought this up? Let’s get rid of the sin that so entangles us and place our eyes on the Father.
The second place that we are to worship is in the church. In John 4:20 the woman brings up the importance of place. Our mountain or yours Jesus? He replies by saying that geographical region isn’t important but doing it as the body is. He also tells us that style and preference is inconsequential because it is a heart matter. When we come together as a church we should be seeking His face
Finally we need to be worshiping Jesus personally. This is our private time with Him. In our prayers we worship. In the Lord’s Prayer Jesus starts it off with adoration. “Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be your name. Is our devotion time filled with requests and petitions? Lets start it with praise and worship and then move on to needs.
So much is made about style of worship. Let’s focus on the source of worship and let everything else take care of itself. If you need to be moved out of your comfort zone then God will do what is necessary to do that if it means you will grow. As long as we continue to cultivate a heart for giving Him praise God will lead us down the necessary path.
